Delay Resigns, Bush Shrugs

Tom Delay announced his resignation recently. Apparently crime really doesn't pay.

The House Majority Leader recently announced that he would not be running for re-election, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

He said he will not be running not be cause of the scandal, but because he refuses "to allow liberal Democrats an opportunity to steal this seat with a negative, personal campaign."

According to the Washington Post, Rep. Delay was accused of using illegally obtained funds for campaigns. The funds were from lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Would a personal campaign be justified? I would be driving down the road with a bullhorn if I thought it would help my candidate win.

Abramoff has since been sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison for "fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy to bribe public officials."

Lobbyists are the scum of Washington DC. This has always been the case, and will always be the case.

Outlawing lobbying will not change it, but we can aspire to be better than the scumbags that represent us.

Delay, a steadfast republican, was the forefront of the impeachment of President Clinton, according to the WSJ, and Clinton didn't break any laws!

Scum like this who are quick to accuse others but cannot admit when they're wrong are the forefront of our country's politics.

If only this were the end of the story. Unfortunately, politics is bigger than some little scandal.

Clinton continued to run things terribly after he was impeached. Bush is due for impeachment, but is getting tons of backup from the idiots on Capitol Hill.

The only man with backbone enough to admit he was an idiot was Nixon, and we still treat him like he was the worst ever. Was he really that terrible?

And guess what; Bush doesn't see this as a bad sign for his party. He explained: "My own judgement is that our party will continue to succeed because we are the party of ideas."

Party of ideas? Are you kidding me? Bush needs to take another vacation. These are the only things he's done right in his career.

Do the math; Delay has been indicted, Abramoff is in prison, and we are in an ongoing war with an intangible enemy during which we have everything from prison scandals to suicide bombings.

But President Bush, ever locked in his office away from opposing views, gets the impression that everything is going great.
